The Waltron Work Experience: Engineering the Future

Empowering Tomorrow’s Engineers

At Waltron, we believe in fostering the next generation of engineers through hands-on experience and real-world problem-solving. That’s why we are proud to introduce the Waltron Work Experience (WWE), a program designed for final-year engineering students to gain practical knowledge in manufacturing and operational processes. Students immerse themselves in various aspects of our production environment through WWE, learning everything from MRP systems to quality management. The WWE program is divided into three distinct phases, each lasting approximately 30 days:

Phase 1: Production Insight

Students start as production technicians, gaining insights into our manufacturing processes. They actively participate in production, taking notes and asking questions to help improve work instructions. This hands-on experience gives them a thorough understanding of how our products are made, the critical role of inventory control, and the workflow for both made-to-stock and made-to-order production.

Phase 2: Quality Management

The team then moves on to our Quality Management System, concentrating on the Non-Conforming Report (NCR) process. They work on updating work instructions to enhance assembly consistency, shorten build times, and boost overall quality. The team also investigates NCRs, developing corrective actions based on their experiences and broader production challenges.

Phase 3: Engineering Focus

In the final phase, students engage in targeted engineering projects focusing on refining our Design for Manufacture processes. These projects might involve redesigning components or improving workflows. The changes they develop are then integrated into Waltron’s manufacturing and assembly systems.

Meet the WWE Team

Meet the talented individuals behind the Waltron Work Experience, each bringing their unique skills and contributions to the team.

William Weiss

William Weiss

William Weiss is our Product Development Engineer. He is currently testing and developing a dual-sample fast-loop reservoir for our new colorimeter, ensuring that our products continue to meet the high standards our customers expect.

Ibraheem Khan

Ibraheem Khan

Ibraheem Khan serves as our Production Engineer. His contributions include rearranging the production and warehouse layout in preparation for implementing a new “job cost work order” production format, which will enhance efficiency in both production and inventory management.

Sudip Suresh

Sudip Suresh

Sudip Suresh is our Quality Engineer. He focuses on documenting non-conforming products, identifying their root causes, and implementing actions to prevent future occurrences, thereby raising and maintaining our quality standards.

Upcoming Projects and Goals

The WWE team will soon review the top three issues identified across various disciplines. These issues will receive dedicated resources to eliminate them, whether through workflow adjustments, engineering redesigns, or updates to work instructions.

Team Dynamics and Collaboration

Our team operates under the guidance of Senior Engineer Anuj and Engineering Supervisor Ricky, who provide the vision for Waltron’s success. The interns are assigned tasks that align with this vision, from design work to updating instructions and running tests. Collaboration is key, with team members often assisting each other to achieve their goals. Regular updates are provided to Anuj and Ricky, who then create action plans to drive performance improvements.

A Shared Journey: From Formula Racing to Waltron

All three interns share a common background with Rutgers Formula Racing, where they gained invaluable experience designing and building a formula-style race car. Their journey with the team has been filled with challenges, especially during the transition from gasoline to electric power. Despite the obstacles, they learned crucial lessons that have shaped their approach at Waltron. As they enter their final year at Rutgers, they are more committed than ever to applying their knowledge and skills to real-world engineering challenges.

We are excited to see what the future holds for these talented individuals and look forward to their continued contributions to Waltron’s success.
